New Delhi: This important seat in Delhi is witnessing a fight between political veterans. Taking no chance Congress has fielded its most experienced and former Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit. To take her on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has put forward its Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari.

Like other constituencies in Delhi, this seat is also witnessing a triangular fight as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have nominated its popular face, Dilip Pandey.

This constituency polled in the sixth phase of the 2019 general elections on May 12. Actor-singer turned politician Manoj Tiwari is the sitting MLA from the seat. He started his political career in 2009 by contesting the Lok Sabha elections as a Samajwadi Party candidate from Gorakhpur constituency. Then he shifted to the BJP where he registered a victory by a record margin.

He won in this seat defeating AAP. BJP polled 5,96,125 of the total of 13,17,338 votes polled. INC had won the seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.

Looking for a revival in Delhi, Congress fielded its most experienced Sheila Dikshit who is the longest-serving chief minister of Delhi. She held power for 15 years from 1998-2013. She was defeated and replaced by Arvind Kejriwal.

Meanwhile, the AAP’s Dilip Pandey served as the convenor for the party’s Delhi unit. He was appointed to the post in 2014 but resigned following the party’s defeat in the MCD election in 2017. It was under his co-convenorship that the party won 67 of the 70 Assembly seats in 2015.
