New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party's West Delhi candidate Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma is all set to retain his seat and is already leading by a margin of 4.92 lakh vote.

Verma had won the West Delhi constituency in 2014 with a record margin of over 2.68 lakh votes, the highest in the national capital ever. The Lok Sabha election result trend shows that Verma has got 7.36 lakh vote - 59.84% vote share. He is set to defeat Congress nominee Mahabal Mishra, who has so far got 2.44 lakh vote. The Aam Aadmi Party candidate Balbir Singh Jakhar is running at third spot with 2.18 lakh vote. Congress and AAP combined could only manage 37.6% of the vote, which is much lower than BJP's 59.84% vote.

The Congress fielded Purvanchali leader Mahabal Mishra, 65, who was the MP from the area in 2009. Debutant Balbir Singh Jakhar is representing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Jakhar, 47, is a lawyer and social worker.

In this constituency of 67 lakh voters, Jats, Purvanchalis and Sikhs are the three dominant communities. Pockets such as Rajouri Garden, Tilak Nagar, Janakpuri and Hari Nagar have a large Sikh population, while Jharoda, Dichaun Kalan, and Dhansa are Jat strongholds.

In 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Verma had defeated Mahabal Mishra by a huge margin of 4,58,129 votes. The BJP had recorded a landslide victory in the national capital in 2014, grabbing all seven seats amid the formidable Modi wave.  The AAP had ended up at second position in all seats, while the Congress' seven MPs, including two Union Ministers, finished on the third spot in their constituencies.

Delhi went for the polling on a single day during the sixth phase of voting across the country on May 12. The voter turnout was about 60%, down 5% than the last Lok Sabha Election.
