Thiruvananthapuram: Chairman of the Kerala Administrative Reforms Commission and veteran leader of CPI(M) VS Achuthanandan told the CPM in Kerala to introspect and find the real cause of their defeat in the Lok Sabha election 2019. In a letter to CPM central leadership, the veteran leader requested the party to correct its mistake.

The leader also said it wouldn't be right to come up with lame excuses for the LDF’s defeat in the Lok Sabha election. He also stated in the letter that there is no other way but going back to people.

Many have alleged that the reason for the Left's defeat in the state was due to their stance on the Supreme Court verdict on Sabarimala.

The verdict of the apex court on September 28, 2018 allowing the entry of women of all age groups into the famous shrine had made Sabarimala a battlefield. Women of all ages should be allowed in Kerala's renowned Sabarimala temple, the Supreme Court ordered, ending the age-old ban.

He then added, rather than this “false allegation,” CPM should look for the real reasons, he said in the letter.

The letter was distributed in a meeting in Delhi. The CPM central committee criticised the party for differing from its policy structure. It also instructed the party to follow political discipline.

Earlier while reacting to the Lok Sabha election results, Achuthanandan said that the results were shocking. He also mocked the Central government by saying that the situation in India is akin to “handing over safekeeping duty to a burglar”.

“It can be assumed that the opposition parties failed to be united and in harmony, which led to this”, the veteran leader said. He was indicating that the Congress failed in maintaining its unity in the state and other states, and hence the Congress lost in the Centre.

The leader also mentioned in a Facebook post that he feels pleasure and relief knowing that Keralites managed to oust the BJP from Kerala.

The UDF won in 19 out of 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala. AM Arif of the LDF won in Alappuzha.
