Kerala: 35-year-old nurse dies as surgery goes wrong

A 35-year-old woman's father has registered a case of medical negligence against a Kochi hospital, Kerala hospital after his daughter lost her life. The victim, Sandhya was admitted to the Kochi hospital on Sunday and the surgery for tubectomy was fixed for Monday, after the surgery the woman died.   


Kochi: A 35-year-old nurse has died after a surgical procedure went wrong at a hospital in Kochi on Monday (July 22). After this incident, a complaint of medical negligence against the Kochi hospital was lodged by the deceased's father.

The victim, Sandhya was admitted in the Kochi hospital on Sunday (July 21) and surgery for tubectomy was fixed for Monday. After the surgery, certain complications occurred and she was shifted to another hospital.  But she was declared “brought dead”. Her father reportedly has said that he was informed by his daughter that she was given different medicine before the operation. 

Police have registered a case of unnatural death as of now. Postmortem will take place at the Ernakulam medical college Tuesday (July 23) and following the report, the investigation will take place, sources said. 

Earlier, a patient who was brought to Kerala's Kottayam Medical College Hospital in critical condition died after failing to receive treatment on time. He was denied admission to the hospital. The deceased was identified as Jacob Thomas. Though the patient's daughter, Reni, took him from there in the same ambulance to two private hospitals, there also ventilator facility was not available. 

In another incident, Gandhinagar police have booked cases against two doctors and Dianova Diagnostic Centre in Kottayam for wrongly diagnosing a Kerala woman with cancer. The patient also underwent chemotherapy. A case was booked, and the woman has sought legal action against medical officers and doctors who diagnosed her with cancer and treated her. The doctors are identified as RP Renjin and consultant oncologist K Suresh Kumar.
