Bengaluru: In a great display of care and concern, Karnataka's home minister Basavaraj Bommai has gotten his residence in his assembly constituency converted into covid care centre.
Reports that the at Shiggaon in Haveri district, can accommodate 50 Covid patients, and is being equipped with oxygen supply.
Along with the necessary medical equipment, the beds have been placed on the verandah. 50 oxygen concentrators are to be installed at each bedside to supply oxygen to the patients.
Basavaraj Bommai is the son of former Chief Minister S R Bommai. He represents Shiggaon constituency. However, his family lives in Hubballi, and he stays at the house on his constituency visits.
Happy that his residence had been converted for societal use, the minister added that it would be taken care of by government and private medical professionals.
It is needless to say that doctors are happy over the move as it reduces the burden on the government hospital.
This is the first time when a minister's residence has been converted as Covid Care Centre.
PM holds high-level review meet
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday attended a high-level review meeting to discuss the Covid-19 and vaccination-related situation in the country, where he emphasised that localised containment strategies are the need of the hour.
During the review meeting, officials informed the prime minister that testing had been ramped up rapidly in the country from around 50 lakh tests per week in early March to around 1.3 crore tests per week now.
Officials briefed the prime minister about the gradually decreasing test positivity rate and increasing recovery rate.
Prime Minister Modi told that officials that testing needs to be scaled up further -- with both RT PCR and rapid tests -- in areas with high test positivity rates.
He also directed officials to augment healthcare resources in rural areas to focus on door to door testing and surveillance.
Stressing upon the need for empowering ASHA and Anganwadi workers, the prime minister asked for guidelines to be made available in easy language along with illustrations for home isolation and treatment in rural areas.
