Along with Flight lieutenant Mohana Singh, Avani Chaturvedi and Bhawana Kanth were among the first three women selected into Indian Air Force's fighter stream in June 2016.
New Delhi: Flight Lieutenant Mohana Singh became the first woman fighter pilot to become fully operational by day on Hawk advanced jet aircraft as she landed after a gruelling four Aircraft combat sortie at West Bengal's Kalaikunda Air Force Station. This was the last syllabus sortie of being fully operational on the Hawk Jets.
Mohana's training involved flying air-to-air combat and air-to-ground missions. She undertook many practice missions which included rocket firing, gun firing and dropping high calibre bombs. She also participated in various Air Force Level flying exercises and has a total of over 500 hours of incident-free flying of which 380 hours are on the Hawk Mk 132 jet.
Mohana, along with two other pilots Flight Lieutenant Bhawana Kanth and Avani Chaturvedi joined the fighter stream in June 2016. Earlier, a week ago, Bhawana became a fully operational by day on MiG-21 Bison.
Bhawana, who hails from Darbhanga, Bihar, along with Mohana and Avani were the first three women selected into IAF's fighter stream in June 2016.
