A day after BS Yediyurappa was sworn in as the chief minister of Karnataka, JDS patriarch HD Deve Gowda spoke to the media on several issues

Bengaluru: Karnataka JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda has attacked Gopalaiah, the party's MLA from Mahalaxmi Layout(Bengaluru) who has put in his papers.

He said, “We have called a meeting of the Bangalore Lok Sabha constituency. Gopalaiah has made a number of false statements against us before going to Mumbai.”

On the issue of by-elections, he said, “Speaker will take a decision in a week's time and I don't know if there will be an election or not. No matter what, nobody can finish the JD(S). It doesn't matter that we're no longer in the government.”

The patriarch’s son HD Kumaraswamy has never shied away from displaying emotions in public when he was in power. He has even shed tears. And even after he lost the trust vote, he cried.

Gowda said, “I know the pain Kumaraswamy had to swallow when he was CM. I have seen him cry for 15 minutes, weeping at JP Bhavan.”

Gowda also wished Yediyurappa the best as the CM, “I wish Yediyurappa well. He has said he will not indulge in vindictive politics. I have instructed the party to work as a constructive opposition.”

Lastly, on the issue of GT Deve Gowda, the JD(S) MLA from Chamundeshwari saying they are considering supporting the BJP government, he said, “We have said that we will work as a constructive opposition. He must have meant that the finance Bill and Kumaraswamy's budget have to be passed. There is no need to make a big issue of it.”

On continuing alliance with the Congress, he said, “Why talk about it now, let's see in the days ahead. We will not blindly oppose everything. We will work as a regional party.”
