Delhi braces for thunderstorm, temperature to go down

Delhi has been witnessing sporadic rainfall since Tuesday morning, which has significantly brought down the temperature in the capital city. The MeT department had issued an all India weather warning bulletin where it says that almost the entire country will be experiencing rainfall on April 17. 

New Delhi: Thunderstorm, accompanied by squall, is expected in Delhi and place in north India like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh.  

Squall is defined as a sudden violent gust of wind with a speed of  50-60 kmph but the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Delhi has been witnessing sporadic rainfall since Tuesday morning, which has significantly brought down the temperature in the capital city. 

The MeT department had issued an all India weather warning bulletin where it says that almost the entire country will be experiencing rainfall on April 17. 

“Thunderstorm accompanied with squall (wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph) and lightning at isolated places very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh,” said the statement.

While the maximum temperature in Delhi was expected to be around 29 degree Celsius, the minimum temperature is likely to reach 19 degree Celsius. 

According to the authorities, the sudden rainfall is due to an approaching western disturbance. 

The depression will prevail through April 18, 19 and 20. 

Meanwhile, nearly 50 people were killed as rains coupled with thunderstorm and lightning hit several parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra overnight, officials said on Wednesday.

The unseasonal rains and storm also caused damage to property and crops in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
