The government is planning to inoculate 1 crore people on a daily basis starting mid-July
Bengaluru: With India fighting the second wave of the pandemic hard, it is vaccinating its people on a war- footing.
However, due to the massive population and the dearth in the supply of the vaccines produced, the country is facing a sort of crisis.
Now, the government hopes to inoculate its people in the order of 1 crore per day, starting mid-July or August.
The vaccine supplies are expected to improve with Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute of India ramping up production and the supply of Sputnik V to improve as well.
“It is a matter of around two months. Once supplies improve, the number of vaccinations per day will go up remarkably. We have to do it and planning is going on,” Times of India quoted a senior government official as saying.
By July, 20 crore doses of vaccines are likely to be supplied. They include 10 crore of Covishield, 7.5 crore of Covaxin and 2.5 crore doses of Sputnik V.
Additionally, if Pfizer and Moderna enter the market by the same time, the supplies will improve further.
The government’s focus has now shifted to rural areas. It is now focusing on adding more covid vaccination sites. The website adds that 1 lakh child immunisation centres are being readied for immunisation in remote areas.
“By August, we will have 20-25 crore vaccine doses per month. We are aiming to vaccinate 1 crore people every day,” said N K Arora, chairperson of the National Task Force on Covid-19 Vaccination.
