Coronavirus: Telangana CM issues 'shoot at sight' orders for those who disobey curfew

Synopsis

Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday said that if people did not obey to the curfew implemented across the state, he would be forced to issue 'shoot at sight' orders

K Chandrasekhar Rao, Telangana chief minister, said that if the people disobey the curfew implemented across the state, he would be forced to issue 'shoot at sight' orders.

KCR, as he is fondly known, said while addressing a media briefing, "Please don’t let it come to this. The administration cannot stop everyone and I will have to call in the Army or issue ‘shoot at sight’ orders. Please stay at home, otherwise the entire society will get hurt. I am appealing to everyone."

KCR’s statement comes in the wake of public defying the lockdown imposed in the state (now till 15 April), which has resulted in the police clamping down on civilians from moving about.

On Tuesday, another three cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) were reported in Telangana, taking the total number of cases detected to 36 in the state.

"No one is critical in the 35 active cases. By April 7, all of them will be discharged. We have taken samples from 19,313 people as of now, most of whom are foreign returnees and their contacts," he said.
