The construction of an 18-km long bridge connecting Assam and Meghalaya will soon begin as L&T emerges the lowest bidder
Bengaluru: In a massive boost to the Northeast part of India, a bridge connecting Assam and Meghalaya will be built, which will be 18kms in length.
The lowest bid to build this bridge was by Larsen and Toubro. The cost will be Rs 3200 crore and it will be built over the river Brahmaputra.
"Larsen & Toubro has emerged as the lowest bidder for about Rs 3,200 crore four-lane road bridge across river Brahmaputra from Dhubri to Phulbari on NH 127 B," PTI quoted a National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) official as saying.
The bridge, considered to be strategic in nature, will be reducing the detouring road distance by about 203 km from Dhubri to Phulabari, which lie on the either side of the Brahmaputra before it flows into Bangladesh.
The venture also stands as a glowing testimony between Japan and India as it is the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) that is financing the project.
It is interesting to note that it is the same agency that is also financing the bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad that is over 500kms.
