Sriharikota: Chandrayaan-2, India’s second most ambitious mission to the moon, has been launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh.
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) took to Twitter to share live updates of the launch:
ISRO had earlier tweeted saying that the launch countdown of #GSLVMkIII-M1/#Chandrayaan2 commenced today at 1843 Hrs IST. The launch was scheduled for 1443 Hrs IST on July 22nd.
After the glitches were rectified, ISRO successfully completed the launch rehearsal of the Chandrayaan-2 mission on Saturday (July 20).
Previously the Chandrayaan-2 launch scheduled on July 15 had to be aborted due to a technical snag. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief K Sivan confirmed that all the glitches were rectified.
Chandrayaan-2 is scheduled for 15 crucial activities.
“Chandrayaan-2 will land on the South Pole on the Moon on September 6 or 7. It will be helpful in a lot of scientific testing and scientists across and beyond India are looking forward to the launch,” said ISRO chief K Sivan.
Chandrayaan-2 is expected to set foot on the Moon where no mission has ever reached. The spacecraft consists of an orbiter, a lander, and a rover together referred to as "composite body." The probe's total mass is 3.8 ton.
