Women leaders from Smriti Irani to Nirmala Sitharaman asked Mohammad Azam Khan to apologise to Deputy Speaker Rama Devi for his sexist remarks
New Delhi: Women Lok Sabha MPs demanded an apology from veteran political and Samajwadi Party lawmaker Mohammad Azam Khan for his “sexist” remarks made to Bihar MP Rama Devi. Union textiles minister Smriti Irani during the Zero Hour said that the remarks of Khan were a blot on all legislators, including men.
Supporting Irani's move, Union law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that Khan should tender an apology or be suspended from the House.
Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman also requested Speaker Om Prakash Birla to take action against Khan.

The Speaker has called for a meeting with leaders of all parties to decide whether action should be taken against Azam Khan.
Azam Khan and Akhilesh Yadav were not present in the House when members flagged his remarks soon after question hour.
While participating in the debate on the Triple Talaq Bill on July 25, Khan made the comment, in which he said, "I am so fond of you. I feel like gazing into your eyes."
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav rose to defend Khan while Speaker Om Birla took over proceedings.
Akhilesh said there was no intention to malign the Chair.
Soon after, BJP members protested.
