Bengaluru: In what comes as a move that further reemphasises that the Modi government pushes itself to help out citizens in need, a group of 211 Indian students studying in Italy were airlifted and brought back to India from Italy, one of the most terribly hit countries due to coronavirus outbreak.

As reported by a popular website, the students were airlifted in a special Air India flight which took off from Milan in Italy for India on Saturday, the 14th of March).

As this development took place, the Indian Consulate in Milan, the website added, has expressed its gratitude to the Air India team and the authorities from Italy for making the evacuation possible.

The move to evacuate the Indian students from Italy is a boon as the country has seen more than a 1000 deaths and shockingly, 175 deaths were reported on Saturday alone.

In the wake of this calamity, several airlines had cancelled their flights to the country. In fact, even Air India had cancelled its flights, but a special flight was organised to fly back stranded Indians back home.

It should be further noted that India has carried out such rescue missions frequently during the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.

Earlier, India had sent a flight to China to bring back its students in addition to sending flights to Japan and Iran.

The number of deaths stands at 5, 839.

Meanwhile, the students who landed from Italy at Delhi airport will be shifted to Indo-Tibetan Border Police's Chhawla camp, as reported by ANI.

It should also be noted that seven compassionate cases have also been taken care of by Air India, taking the total number of evacuees to 218.
