Several people from Kodagu shared horrifying stories on how they had to witness the death of their loved ones during the floods because of the district’s lack of well-equipped emergency hospitals

Bengaluru: Days after the people of Karnataka campaigned for an emergency hospital in Uttara Kannada, Twitterati have come together in demand for a fully equipped hospital in Kodagu.

On Wednesday (June 12), #WeNeedEmergencyHospitalInKodagu surfaced on social media, using which, many people tagged Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and requested him to provide a well-equipped hospital for the people of Kodagu in Karnataka.

The Twitter campaign brought into awareness the situation in Kodagu, where many cannot receive proper treatment because of the lack of an advanced hospital. The patients depend on hospitals in Mysuru, Mangaluru and Bengaluru. Many patients who were in critical condition have lost their lives on the way to hospitals located out of the district.

They had an entire year to prepare for this monsoon. All they did was squabble of petty issues and forgot the distressed. We still don’t have a proper emergency medical facility to deal with a calamity as last year’s. Get your act together!

Several people, who lost their loved ones in the recent Kodagu floods which took place in August 2018, shared their horrible experience on Twitter. They also claimed that there is no emergency hospital with advanced equipment and stated that they would hate to see more people battling for their lives while stuck in floods, unable to receive treatment.

Kodagu is an enriched district, but there is no emergency hospital. If there is emergency, people are supposed to travel to other district's hospitals.

So far, Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and Mysuru MP Pratap Simha have not made any official statement on the issue.

Recently, on June 8, a hashtag #WeWantEmergencyHospitalInUK sprung up, using which, people of Uttara Kannada requested the state government to construct an emergency hospital in their district, considering there was no nearby hospital.
