Sikh community in Australia served 800 cooked meals to truck drivers stuck at borders
Bengaluru: The Sikh community is always known for its altruism. They set up langar and serve food to everyone in a crisis.
This is being witnessed in the New Delhi borders as the protest against farm laws is going on.
Now, as per reports, Sikhs in Australia cooked 800 meals in just under 3 hours to serve them to truck drivers stuck at Dover.
The drivers are uncertain as to when the borders would open and are stranded. A helping hand by these Sikhs has gone a long way in mitigating their predicament.
As per Kent Online, Sikhs from the Gravesend Gurdwara cooked 800 meals, in just three hours. The meals were then distributed to hungry lorry drivers.
The meals included 500 chickpea curries and 300 mushroom and pasta dishes.
A police escort too was provided as the meals were collected and distributed to the unfortunate drivers.
Kent Online quoted spokesman for the Guru Nanak Darbar Jagdev Singh Virdee as saying, "They [Khalsa Aid] got in touch this morning about 12 o'clock and by 2.30pm they came to collect the food. We made some phone calls to get volunteers together because we are already doing Langar, where we deliver to vulnerable people."
A spokesperson for Kent County Council, the authority responsible for driver welfare, said: "With the help of Kent Resilience Forum agencies, we were able to give out snacks and drinking water through Monday ahead of drivers being able to access welfare facilities at Manston as part Operation Brock planning".
Back to India, the agitating farmers in the New Delhi, which sees a high concentration of Sikhs, are helping each other out in the best possible way.
Laundry service, free shaving services, langars have been set up.
This spirit of care and concern for fellow human beings is indeed praiseworthy.
