The pictures of the unique house made by Ladakhi engineer Sonam Wangchuk have gone viral. Wangchuk also inspired Aamir Khan's role in the hit movie, 3 Idiots

Ladakh: While many have tried to recreate the iconic scene of Kareena Kapoor on a yellow scooter driving from an eco-friendly school run by Aamir Khan aka Phuntsok Wangdu, the real-life inspiration behind it all may give you something new.

If you thought engineer Sonam Wangchuk's claim to fame is only 3 Idiots, think again. The work done in his Himalayan Institute of Alternatives in Ladakh often surprises people with their innovations. This time they recycled a Mahindra car as the roof of a house.

Chairman of Mahindra group, Anand Mahindra, took to Twitter to share the images of the same lauding the effort saying, "A way of life at the Institute, where nothing gets discarded." Take a dekko.

Wangchuk's Ice Stupa project to store water for the farmers of Ladakh in the critical planting months of April and May also got really popular. The team had successfully built a two-storey ice stupa in 25 days while working in sub-zero temperatures. The stupa can store about 150,000 litres of winter stream water for times when it is needed.
