Mumbai: Veeru Devgan, Indian stunt and action choreographer and film director in Bollywood for over 80 films, was unwell for quite a long time. Ajay called off his movie promotions (De De Pyaar De) as his father was sick. He was admitted to Surya hospital where he was under treatment. He breathed his last at the hospital Monday morning. Veeru Devgan was 85 years.
His funeral was held at Vile Parle West Crematorium at 6pm.
On hearing the news, many Bollywood celebs arrived at the funeral. Including Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan.
Kajol was seen weeping uncontrollably and broke down in Aishwarya’s arms. Aishwarya, as well as Abhishek, consoled her.
Veeru has choreographed films like Hindustan Ki Kasam, Shahenshah, Dilwale(1994), Mr India and more. Veeru wanted to become an actor, he belonged to Amritsar, he left home to pursue his ambition. But he became a stuntman and later an action choreographer. He, however, fulfilled his dream of acting in Bollywood through his son Ajay.
In an earlier interview with Ajay Devgn, Ajay said “The Singham in my life can only be my father. Because he is a man who came to Bombay with Rs 4 in his pocket, wanting to become something, struggled, washed and lived in taxis so he could live here, did not eat anything for 8 days at times, worked so hard, became a street fighter from there till Mr Ravi Khanna saw him one day asking him whether he would become a fight director. From there, his growth from nowhere to become India’s topmost action director is remarkable.”
