A writ petition was filed against SRK and others for a scene that showed the actor wearing the dagger carried by the Sikh community
Mumbai: Following a writ petition filed against actor Shah Rukh Khan and makers of the upcoming film, Zero, Bombay high court has asked Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to examine the movie.
The censor board has also been asked to submit a report on the same by December 18. The writ was filed by Amritpal Singh Khalsa claiming that the usage of Kirpan by the actor in the movie was 'a clear-cut mockery' of the Sikh religion. He also said that under Article 25 of the Indian Constitution only Sikhs have the exclusive privilege of wearing and carrying Kirpans.
In an interview to ANI, Khalsa said, "A lot of Sikhs have sacrificed their lives for Kirpan during the British time so he can’t make fun of it. There is no ban on wearing Kirpan, he can wear Kirpan but he has to follow the Sikh Rehat Maryada code of conduct."
However, in an official statement, the filmmakers had claimed that it was just an 'ordinary dagger' and not a Kirpan. The movie also starring Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif is set to hit theatres on December 21.
