Synopsis

The actor was appointed the chairman of the Institute last year amidst much controversy

Pune: Citing a busy schedule, actor Anupam Kher has stepped down from his position at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). The actor was appointed as the chairman of the institute in October last year.

Kher has been involved in shooting American drama series New Amsterdam and recently wrapped up shooting for The Accidental Prime Minister. He also serves as the UN ambassador for gender equality.

His appointment was faced with some resistance by the students since he also runs a private acting school in Mumbai, which allegedly presented a conflict of interest for his new role. The students even wrote an open letter to the actor within 24 hours of him assuming chair, highlighting their grievances.
