Centre spends nearly Rs 40 to 50,000 crore for service, welfare; Rs 7,881 crore on Delhi Police; Rs 40,000 crore annually on the Delhi Metro, road infrastructure, Yamuna cleaning, hospitals, Delhi University, BJP said in its complaint.
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has moved the election commission against one of the radio ads of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) wherein chief minister Arvind Kejriwal “falsely” claims that Delhi suffers discrimination at the hands of the Centre that allots a measly Rs 350 crore to it annually.
Praveen Shankar Kapoor, BJP’s Delhi spokesperson, complained to the chief electoral officer that while he was not sure that the contents of the ad had been “approved by the election officer or not”, the ad must be probed into and banned.
“The above-cited contents are false,” he said in his letter to the CEO, claiming that the Centre “allocates around Rs 40 to 50,000 crore for service, welfare and betterment of the people of Delhi every year”.
“It is the Centre which maintains Delhi Police, spending Rs 7881 crore annually on it for maintaining law and order of the city and spends around Rs 40,000 crore annually on Delhi Metro, road infrastructure, Yamuna cleaning, hospitals, Delhi University etc. which directly benefit the people of Delhi,” Kapoor added.
Kapoor demanded that the contents of this advertisement are reviewed by the CEO and either the AAP be asked to withdraw it or blocked.
