Maruti reports 33% drop in August sales; Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga sales improve

Synopsis

With 1,06,413 units sold in August in comparison to 1,58,189 units sold in August 2018, Maruti Suzuki India, stated that the company’s sales for August had dropped 32.7%. However, sales of utility vehicles, including Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga, saw a rise of 3.1%  


New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), the country's largest carmaker, reported a 32.7% decline in sales in August.

The company sold 1,06,413 units in August in comparison to 1,58,189 units sold in August 2018, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement.

Domestic sales were at 97,061 units last month as against 1,47,700 units of August last year, it added, indicating that there was a decline of 34.3%.
 
Mini cars comprising Alto and WagonR also saw a decline of 71.8% in sales with 10,123 units sold in the month of August as compared to 35,895 units in the same month last year.

Sales in the compact segment also saw a fall of 23.9%, with 54,274 units of models including Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire, sold in comparison to the 71,364 cars sold in August last year.

Mid-sized sedan Ciaz sold 1,596 units as compared to 7,002 units earlier.

However, sales of utility vehicles, including Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga, saw a rise of 3.1% at 18,522 units as compared to 17,971 in the year-ago month, MSI said.

Exports in August were down by 10.8% at 9,352 units as against 10,489 units in the corresponding month last year, the company said.
