Take a look at some of the pictures from Kumortuli in Kolkata, West Bengal, which will make you visit the place now

Just like Kumartuli, many places in West Bengal have already started prepping for Durga Puja. Idol makers of Goddess Durga have already begun sculpting and decorating the pandal. This year, people in Kolkata are trying to make these pujas special by incorporating a lot of surprises. As the countdown to Durga Puja begins, let's see how Kolkata is gearing up with theme-based pandals.

Today we walk across Kumortuli, the alley of the potters, where gods and goddesses are born in the skilled hands of sculptors who are in the profession for several generations. Kumortuli is over 300 years old making it a potters' locality.

These artisans live with their families in this area and have set up their studios for pottery and idol making. Surprisingly, these studios are located in congested areas without air conditioners and fans. Some studios don't have proper ventilation. Some of the artisans are using equipment and materials like straw, ropes, clay, bamboo sticks, etc. Just with these materials, idol makers create beautiful and awe-inspiring idols of Durga.

Various Durga Puja committees and clubs have been set up for the five-day-long event. Take a look at some of Kumortuli's idols of Durga that are in progress.
