Sourav Ganguly is ready to take over as the president of the BCCI. Experts feel it is a good move, for he knows the ins and outs of the game
Bengaluru: Former India captain, referred to as the ‘Prince of Calcutta’, Sourav Ganguly will take over as the president of the Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI).
It is a welcome move considering that a successful cricketer, who is credited to have metamorphosed India cricket with his phenomenal cricketing acumen and robust captaincy skills, knowing the ins and outs of the game is at the top of the hierarchy.
Sourav Ganguly took over as the India captain from Sachin Tendulkar, who voluntarily relinquished the post. At that point in time, Indian team was replete with youngsters like Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh and others.
It was the southpaw who infused the confidence into these novices, as also other stalwarts like VVS Lakshman and Anil Kumble that they too have the paraphernalia to beat other teams and India cricketers are subservient to none.
Joseph Hoover, a cricket journalist says, “It is good for Indian cricket. His stature, ability, experience and fortitude will go a long way in dealing with the affairs of the BCCI. It will certainly put cricket back on its track.”
Well, it is not that Ganguly has been a virtuoso in just grooming talent. Administratively too, he is not an ignoramus.
The cricket journalist adds, “Sourav was also the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal. He has the administrative acumen as well. He will clean up all the dirt. He will be very firm and will have no compromise like others did. For him, cricket is more important than position.”
Ganguly made his test debut in the year 1996 against England. He has to his credit scoring a century in this test match.
He made his ODI debut in the year 1992, against West Indies.
He is indeed a run machine with more than 10,000 runs in the ODI format while more than 7,000 runs in the longest format.
