Baroda: As India fights the deadly novel coronavirus (COVID-19), former cricketers Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan have decided to help the needy in Baroda. The Pathan brothers have donated face masks to people to combat coronavirus.

Irfan took to the micro-blogging website Twitter to announce that they are doing their bit for the society. The masks were donated as part of the charity work under the Mehmood Khan Pathan Charitable Trust. The trust is run by his father Mehmood Khan.

The duo has provided 4,000 masks for the needy and is ready to do more as India is under a lockdown due to coronavirus.

“Doing our bit for the society. Whatever u guys can do please go ahead and help each other as far as sanitation is concerned.But don’t gather crowd! @iamyusufpathan  #corona it’s a small start hopefully we will be keep helping more. Everyone of us... (sic),” Irfan tweeted with a video on Monday (March 23).

On Sunday (March 22), after the “Janta Curfew”, Irfan had urged people not to come out of their homes as if to celebrate India’s World Cup triumph. “Janta Curfew” was a big hit as people stay at their homes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed them to do so.

“When we won the World Cup in 2007 and 2011. That night whole country came out on the road and celebrated the victory. Don’t do that tonight. We haven’t won the battle just yet against #coronavirus,” Irfan tweeted.

In another tweet, Irfan wrote, “What's your plan? - Having to stay at home can be a bummer, but #SocialDistancing is the need of the hour. And lucky for me, I've got a great line-up of matches to keep me entertained! Which one are you looking forward to the most? (sic).”

In India, so far over 400 positive coronavirus cases have been reported. So far eight have lost their lives.

Due to coronavirus, all cricket matches have been suspended. The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) has been deferred by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) till April 15.
