Kalyani (West Bengal): Bengal batsman Manoj Tiwary scored his maiden triple century during the second day of their Ranji Trophy match against Hyderabad at Bengal Cricket Academy Ground, Kalyani, on Monday (January 20).
The 34-year-old Tiwary made a superb unbeaten 303 off 414 balls with 30 fours and five sixes. Bengal declared their first innings at 635/7 declared in 151.4 overs. Recently, he was not bought in the Indian Premier League 2020 players auction in Kolkata. He has played 12 ODIs and three T20Is for India.
At the end of the opening day, Tiwary was 156 not out. This was his 27th ton in first-class cricket. He is playing in his 119th first-class game. His previous highest score was 267.
After the first day's play on Sunday, Tiwary had told news agency PTI, “I will rate as one of my favourite innings, maybe in top-seven as I have five times double hundred before this. This knock was however very special. It came in a crucial stage.”
“I was playing well, but a big knock was due. I had back spasm against Kerala. I knew I was doing well in batting and this was due. Given the situation, this is one of my best innings.”
On Twitter, Tiwary wrote on Sunday, "Number 27 Scored my 27th First class hundred today wit this special customised bat of mine wit my Son’s name engraved in it He is also very happy to learn about Dad’s score."
