Mumbai: India captain Virat Kohli is set to match another record of Sachin Tendulkar’s as he prepares to face the Australians in a three-ODI series starting tomorrow (January 14) in Mumbai.
The 31-year-old Kohli will take the field at Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. He will be eyeing to surpass batting legend Tendulkar on his home ground.

Kohli, who has already broken many records in his illustrious international cricket career, can add one more milestone. The Delhi batsman is one ODI century away from equaling Tendulkar’s feat.
So far, Kohli has scored 19 ODI centuries at home. Tendulkar had scored 20 tons in the 50-over format on Indian soil. A look at the statistics shows Kohli having a much better record than Tendulkar.

Kohli hit 19 ODI hundreds in India in 89 innings (92 matches) while Tendulkar took 160 visits to the crease (164 games) to construct 20 three-figure marks.
Overall, Tendulkar ended his illustrious career with 18,426 runs from 463 ODIs with 49 centuries. He is the world record holder for most ODI runs, most ODI centuries and also having played most 50-over internationals.

It will be interesting to see whether Kohli will emulate Tendulkar at Wankhede Stadium, the iconic venue where India won the 2011 World Cup under Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s leadership.
When India won the world title, Kohli had carried Tendulkar on his shoulders and went on a lap honour at the stadium.
