New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to get the ‘Balidaan’ symbol printed on Mahendra Singh Dhoni's gloves to be removed. ICC’s request has sparked a row across the nation.
The incident has gained a lot of attention over social media with Dhoni’s fans favouring his decision. As the ‘Balidaan’ badge was at the centre of the controversy, here is what you would want to know about it:

Balidan is a distinct insignia of the special forces, which forms a part of the Parachute Regiment. It is one of the most coveted badges in the Indian Army. Only Paramilitary Commandos are permitted to wear the badge.
It has a commando dagger pointed downwards, with upward-extending wings extending from the blade and a scroll superimposed on the blade with Balidaan inscribed in Devanagari.
To achieve one of these badges, one has to undergo the toughest training that tests the epitome of physical and mental endurance. The candidate is exposed to sleep deprivation, humiliation, exhaustion, mental and physical strain. Only prime aspirants get the opportunity to achieve such success.
Dhoni has been conferred an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment in 2011. Reports stated that he had also undergone training the Para Brigade in 2015.
Amidst the debate, Dhoni supporters and cricket lovers have continued to show their love for the ex-skipper and solidarity with the armed forces.
