If you are on internet today, you have probably come across the quirky doodle that adorns the Google’s homepage by now.

The doodle, created by Cynthia Yuan Cheng and Vrinda Zaveri, has been dedicated to mark the start of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games.

Here is all you need to know about the event:

The Games, which are being held in Buenos Aires starts from Saturday (October 6), and will go on till October 11. The opening ceremony will be held outside the stadium, at the Obelisk monument, which is at the centre of the city.

More than 200 countries are scheduled to take part at the Games this year, and Kosovo and South Sudan will make their debut at the Youth Olympics this year. Also the average age of the athletes who will be participating at the Games this year is 15 to 18 years.

There are some new games like break dancing, sport climbing, roller sports, karate and BMX freestyle park, that have been introduced this year. Also, a new version of handball will be played for the first time. Moreover, football has been replaced by futsal, which is an indoor game played on a smaller hard court.

The Games are aiming to set an example for gender equality. For the first time ever, there is an equal number of male and female athletes participating at the Games.

The tournament will bring athletes from different countries together on the same platform with mixed gender events as well as mixed National Olympic Committee events.

To take the Games to the largest possible audience, the authorities have decided to spread the event across four parks and entry has been made free of cost. 

According to Times of India, 80% of the population of Buenos Aires are looking forward to attend the Games and more than 6,00,000 people have registered to receive passes.
