Jakarta: It was heartbreak for Indian men in the archery gold medal match as they lost the shoot-off against Korea to settle for silver at the Asian Games 2018 here on Tuesday.

With the scores tied 229-229 after four sets in compound team match, the contest had to be decided in the shoot-off where the nation fell short.

Indian women too were defeated in the final by Korea as two gold medals eluded at the GBK Archery Field.

In the men’s final, the Indian trio of Rajat Chauhan, Aman Saini and Abhishek Verma had a one point lead at the end of the regulation four sets. However, the Korean team got a point back after review, making it 229-229.

In the shoot-off, Koreans had one inner 10 (closet to bull’s eye), a 10 and a 9. Indians managed two 10s and a 9. Korea triumphed as it was so near yet so far for India.

In compound women’s team final, India (Muskan Kirar, Madhumita Kumari, Jyothi Surekha Vennam) lost 228-231 to Korea.

India's medal tally is up to 45 (eight gold, 16 silver, 21 bronze). Currently, the nation is placed ninth. China leads the table with 193 medals.
