On April 29, the Maharashtra cyber police ordered Tamannaah Bhatia to appear before cyber officials for her alleged involvement in the promotion of illegal streaming of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.

The case emerged after reports of the alleged promotion of illegal IPL match streams on the FairPlay app, an offshoot of the Mahadev online gaming and betting application.

The authorities have also registered statements from Bollywood rapper and singer Badshah and the managers of actors Jacqueline Fernandez and Sanjay Dutt regarding the case.

Illegal IPL Streaming Case

The Maharashtra cyber cell issued a summons to the Baahubali actress on Thursday, April 25 for allegedly promoting the illegal streaming of IPL matches in 2023.

The FairPlay app streamed the matches without proper permission from Viacom 18, a media company which had the exclusive rights for broadcasting the IPL matches in 2023.

Other celebrities such as Badshah, Sanjay Dutt and Jacquline have also been questioned about their alleged involvement in the endorsement of the app.

Last year, Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor were also conjured by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for interrogation after their appearance in the Mahadev betting app advertisement.

The FairPlay app is available for free on Google PlayStore and App Store. It is a betting platform for several sports and entertainment games.

The most popular sports for betting on the app are cricket, football, and tennis. The website states, "All sports matches are streamed live on FairPlay for the player's ease to "watch and win at the same time."

It is an affiliate of the Mahadev online gaming app and is infamous for hosting illegal betting in several live games such as cricket, poker, tennis, badminton, football, card games, and others.
