8th Pay Commission: Expected salary hike for central govt employees

With PM Modi's swearing-in ceremony done, many are expecting the newly formed government to form the 8th Pay Commission, which will recommend a hike in govt employee salaries. 

The government has not made any comments about it yet; however, it is expected to be announced next year, with implementations starting in January 2026. 

Previously, the govt enacted the recommendations of a new pay commission every 10 years. The 7th pay commission was in 2016, hence the 8th pay commission is believed to be in 2026. 

As per reports, the 8th pay commission can be formed around 2025. If implemented, it can hike salaries for crores of government employees and pensioners. 

Experts believe a fitment factor of 3.68 times might be implemented in the 8th pay commission. This will hike the basic minimum govt salary from Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000.
