This Couple Wrote 200 Letters While In Prison During The 1975 Emergency
Is love possible without freedom? Does politics define the fine lines of a personal love relationship? These question arises when one reads the 18-month correspondence between Madhu Dandavate, a five-time Member of Parliament from the Rajapur constituency of Maharashtra and his wife Pramila, a political activist, who were imprisoned during the Emergency imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Lodged in separate jails — Madhu in Bangalore Central Jail and Pramila in Yerwada Central Jail – they wrote nearly 200 letters to each other during captivity.
