Idris Hasan Latif joined the Royal Indian Air Force in 1942 when he was just 18 years old. He took part in the Burma Campaign on the Arakan Front during World War II in 1942. The first flypast during Republic Day celebrations in 1950 was led under the leadership of Air Marshal Idris Hasan Latif.

Indian Army recovers World War II aircraft wreckage from Arunachal Pradesh
The security personnel discovered the dilapidated aircraft in a remote location, 30 kms from Roing. The skeleton of the aircraft was completely buried below five feet of snow and covered with thick undergrowth.
