Though the Gandhi family and the Congress seems to be upset about the passing of the Special  Protection Group (Amendment) BIll they do forget that if someone would be affected by this amendment, it would be Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his cover will be withdrawn after five years of him ceasing to be the PM.

The Special Protection Group (SPG) security cover that was provided to the Gandhi family including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi was withdrawn by the Union Government on November 8, 2019. Youth Congress workers on Wednesday (November 20) staged a protest against the removal of Special Protection Group (SPG) cover to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. But in reality, they were caught not knowing the actual reasons behind the protest

When the SPG cover was withdrawn, the Congress termed it political vendetta. But were the services utilised properly by the Gandhis, according to norms? However the fact of the matter is that the SPG cover has been withdrawn and not security.

 

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will not enjoy Special Protection Group cover henceforth. The withdrawal comes into effect after the Central Armed Police Forces takes over the responsibility. The CAPF will continue to give him Z-plus security.
