Bandipur Tiger Reserve  

The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has suggested that forest fires be declared a natural disaster. The proposal comes after the recent disaster in the Bandipur tiger reserve. In this case no one will be held responsible for causing the fire.

Earlier, the Bandipur tiger reserve had lost 4500 hectares of forest land in Gopal Swamy Betta range, Karnataka.

Fearing tiger attack on the cattle, the two accused set the Bandipur tiger reserve on fire on February 22.

Karnataka chief minister HD  Kumaraswamy conducts aerial survey of Bandipur tiger reserve. Two IAF choppers helped in dousing the fire that spanned five days.

Hundreds of forest department officials along with local volunteers tried to douse the fire. However, dry grass and strong winds have aided the fire in spreading towards the roads on National Highway 67.
