Ummul Kher's journey from living in slums to becoming an IAS officer
Ummul Kher was born on 16 August 1988 in a poor household in Rajasthan. Her family relocated to Delhi, and after the demise of her mother, she did not receive any support from her family. Despite the difficulties, Ummul successfully cleared NET JRF in 2013. In 2016, Ummul cleared the UPSC exams in her first attempt. She secured 420th rank and became an IAS officer.

Mohammad Kasim is a resident of Sambhal. He spent his childhood washing dishes for his father’s hand cart business. As he grew older, Kasim set up his own stall, selling haleem (a stew-based dish). He worked at his stall from 6 am to 8 pm. In 2012, Kasim shut down his cart business and moved to Aligarh for higher education. He qualified for the UGC NET exam after completing his LLM. Kasim secured 135th rank in UPPSC-J in 2023.
