Let's honor female scientists in the wake of March 8th's International Women's Day to encourage more women to pursue careers in science. While there was a global trend in favor of women scientists, India too accomplished some notable achievements.

This International Women's Day, let's celebrate women who have brought glory to our nation by winning Olympic medals and are an inspiration for every woman all over the country. 

Smrika Chandrakar is a resident of Charmudiya village in Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh. She makes a substantial income through farming while providing employment to over 100 people.

Harsha Kabra, originally from Chittorgarh district in Rajasthan, has secured the position of APS (Australian Protective Service) in the police department of Australia.

Nadia Chauhan is currently serving as the Chief Marketing Officer and Joint Managing Director of Parle Agro. She has helped the company reach greater heights with her significant roles within the company.

Mridulakumari Jadeja, an Indian cricketer, belongs to a royal family of Rajkot. Her residence, Ranjit Vilas boasts of over 150 rooms. She has played in around 36 Women’s Twenty20 matches. In 2021, she made four half-centuries in women’s senior ODI matches.

Jemimah Rodrigues, an Indian batswoman, scored a half-century in her debut match during the India vs England Test series. After scoring 68 runs, she became the 12^th Indian woman cricketer to make a half-century in a Test debut match.

Forbes recently released the list of the world’s most powerful women for 2023. The list features four accomplished Indian women. Nirmala Sitharaman is India’s Finance Minister. She secured the 32^nd rank in the Forbes list. Previously, she was ranked 36^th in the same list.

Sudha Ankita’s mother raised two daughters as a single mother. She had endured financial hardships since her childhood. Crossing all the hurdles and with undying will to achieve her dreams, Sudha eventually reached the FIFA World Cup.

At the age of 18, Ankita donated 74% of her liver to her mother. She did everything in her power to save her mother, but after four months of transplant, her mother passed away. After a few years of recovery, Ankita went back to playing sports, worked hard consistently and made world records by winning medals at national and international championships.

Mumtaz Khan is an international hockey player. She earned a spot on the Junior National Hockey team in 2017. In 2022, Mumtaz was honoured by the FIH as the Rising Star of the Year. Mumtaz played exceptionally well in the Junior World Cup scoring 8 goals in 6 matches, including a hat-trick against Malaysia.

Oshin Sharma hails from Kangra district and was raised in Shimla. She received acting offers in films, but she declined them due to her family’s disapproval. Oshin Sharma is the brand ambassador of Ladli Foundation. Since 2019, she has been serving as a Himachal Administrative Service officer.

Sabahat Afreen has participated in Taekwondo competitions at both national and international levels. She has won medals at district-level championships. At the age of 8, Sabahat faced opposition from people questioning her choice of wearing hijab during training. Today, she receives immense support from her family and has has won 4 National Championships, 3 Federation Cups, and Asia Championship.

Harmanpreet Kaur is an Indian cricketer. She received training from Jian Jyoti School Academy, Punjab. In 2016, she was signed by the Sydney Scorchers, an overseas T20 franchise. In 2023, the Indian women’s cricket team earned the gold medal at the Asian Games held in China, under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur.
