The AJL was initiated in the year 1937 by the Indian National Congress to promulgate their values and ideals. The paper has been in circulation from their premises in Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg from the year 1967.

The enforcement directorate (ED) had on Monday attached a controversial plot of land (C-17, sector 6, Panchkula) which was allotted allegedly in contravention of law in 1982 to Associated Journals Limited ( AJL ), a trust owned by the not-for-profit organisation Young Indian, in which the Gandhis hold three-fourth of the equity shares.

According to the charge sheet, plot C-17 in Sector-6, Panchkula, was re-allotted to AJL, which publishes the National Herald newspaper, by violating rules and the then chief minister Hooda granted land against the advice of his officers. The CBI’s FIR said, AJL filed an appeal against Haryana Urban Development Authority’s (HUDA) decision before HUDA administrator which was dismissed
