Kochi: The Vadakkekara police in Kochi, Kerala, have arrested five young boys and a CPM activist for raping a minor girl in Ernakulam.

The girl revealed the shocking information about the incident at her school during a counselling session. The police have registered a case under POCSO.

Vadakkekara police have arrested Neendoor natives Ajay Joy (19) and Arun Peter (21), Vadakkekara’s Sharanjith (21), Pattanam Alumparambu’s Albin (24), Ezhikkara native Rohit (21), and CPM branch member Sherine Kumar alias Baby (32) from Pooyappilli.

 Ajay, the main accused in the case, got into a relationship with the victim, a Class 9 student, through Facebook. Later, he abducted her, took her to several places and sexually exploited her.  As per latest reports, five of Ajay's friends have also sexually exploited the minor.

Following this, CPM activist from Chittattukara West Local Committee, Pooyappilli, Sherine was removed from the party’s primary membership.

The incident came to light after the girl’s gold chain went missing and her parents started searching for it.

The girl had revealed that Sharanjith had borrowed her gold chain to clear his debt. The girl’s mother and school authorities lodged a complaint with Vadakkekara police regarding this.

The police got more information after examining her mobile phone. The accused were produced in the court and remanded to police custody.
