Moradabad: A day after Robert Vadra, brother-in-law of the Congress president Rahul Gandhi, hinted he is ready for a political debut, posters of him flanked by other Congress leaders mushroomed all across Moradabad, his home town.

Vadra on Sunday, in a suggestive Facebook post, said he may play "a larger role in serving the people" after the ongoing cases against him are over, sparking speculation that he could join politics as the BJP threw "Congress's prime ministerial candidate" barb at him.

Vadra wrote about years and months he spent campaigning and working in different parts of the country, mainly in Uttar Pradesh, and claimed that it gave him a feeling to do more for the people.

In what was construed by many as a clear indication that he is ready for the big league, Priyanka Gandhi's husband Vadra wrote, "All these years of experience and learning cannot be just wasted and should be put to better use... Once all these accusations and allegations are over, I feel I should dedicate a larger role in serving the people."

Vadra's wife Priyanka has recently been made the Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East).

Meanwhile, an organisation by the name of Moradabad Yuvak Congress plastered Vadra's home town with big posters with a face of smiling Vadra that reads, "Robert Vadra Ji, Moradabad Lokasabha se chunav ladne ke liye apka swagath hai" (Robert Vadra Ji, you are welcome to contest from Moradabad Lok Sabha constituency). The poster also has faces of Rahul and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

But, the Congress played down the suggestion that Vadra wanted to join politics, saying he has long been associated with NGOs and worked for the society, and that it is everyone's duty to use their qualities to serve the people.

"Will he need Modi Ji (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) permission to do work related to people?" is how Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera chose to respond to questions by reporters.

But, if he does choose to fight elections, it will give BJP enough ammo to attack the grand old party. Investigating agencies have been probing Vadra in criminal cases of alleged corruption and money laundering charges often dismissed as a 'political vendetta' by him. In fact, the BJP in a tweet tagged a story of Vadra hinting at joining politics to take aims at the Congress. The tweet read, "Presenting Congress' Prime Ministerial candidate for Lok Sabha elections".

The BJP has often cited the controversial land deals involving Vadra to target the opposition party, claiming that it symbolised the "corruption" under the UPA rule.
