Lucknow: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday (January 19) said that when the RSS workers claim that the country belongs to Hindus, they say that the citizens of the country are Hindus.

Addressing a public gathering in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly, the RSS chief said, "By telling that all are Hindus, we do not want to change people's religion, language or their caste. We do not want any power, other than the Constitution because we believe in it. Hindutva is a holistic approach, and we believe that the ancestors of all were Hindus."

The RSS chief further said that the country was driven by the Constitution, which visualises a bright future for the nation.

"If you read the Constitution, you will realise that every page is an inspiration for the country. The Constitution tells us our beginning and our goals," he said.

Bhagwat also said that the citizens of India need to learn from Israel, which fought for its freedom and is one of the leading countries in the world today.

The RSS chief clarified the confusion over his statement on population control and said, "I only said that population is a problem as well as a resource, so policy should be drafted in this regard. The policy will decide how many children one should have. I did not lay down any rules as such because it is not my job."

"Due to misunderstanding, some people are saying that the Sangh wants to restrict families to two children. We are of the view that the government should make policy on it after consideration. The policy should be made after getting consent from all sections of the society." The RSS chief also stressed the idea of unity in diversity and the true meaning of Hindutva is to live together.
