New Delhi: Several outfits of Islamic extremists and Urban Naxal groups on Friday (December 13) staged protests in the national capital and West Bengal against the Centre's historic Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), that sought to give Indian citizenship to the members of persecuted minorities from neighbouring Islamic countries (Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan).

The protests became violent in these two states, as communally charged Islamists took to streets, turning the protests into massive riots under the guise of protesting against the Centre's decision.

It is reportedly said that more than 15 different Islamic outfits took part in the protests after their Friday namaz. The protests were allegedly planned in a meeting of various Muslim organisations called on Wednesday and marred the law and order situation in West Bengal. The demonstrations also brought multiple parts of the state to a standstill as the police force, at the direction of Mamata Government turned mute spectators to the Jihadi violence.

On Friday evening, a railway station in West Bengal's Murshidabad district was set on fire by people belonging to the Muslim community.

The protesters also vandalised the Beldanga railway station and brutally manhandled a Railway Police Force personnel at the station complex.

The Islamic community mobs pelted stones at several vehicles, including ambulances on the National Highways.

The mob also resorted to violence in Howrah and blocked tracks at the Uluberia railway station. It is also said that loco pilots were also attacked at various stations of the Eastern Railway.

In Kolkata, traffic was disrupted for several hours at Park Circus in the name of protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

The mob from the Muslim community also blocked the National Highway 6 in the area. In the East Midnapore district, Muslim protesters and TMC goons vandalised BJP general secretary Sayantan Basu's car.

The Islamic extremists unleashed severe violence on the police in New Delhi. As many as three police personnel in Delhi were injured in the Jihadi violence. The police resorted to lathi-charge and detained 50 students of Jamia Milia Islamia.
