BJP front foots on Sabarimala, gives activist K Surendran ticket

Thiruvananthapuram: K Surendran was at the forefront of the protest over the entry of women of menstrual age into the Sabarimala temple.

While speaking to media, Surendran said that Pathanamthitta is a Parliamentary constituency, which has gained attention across the country, especially because of the Sabarimala protest that took place during the last six months.

Surendran also said to media that the party has given a big responsibility and he hopes to get full support from Pathanamthitta.  He also stated that Pathanamthitta natives went through a lot of difficulties. He also added that he will keep in mind the sentiments of the people of Pathanamthitta and campaign. 

BJP state chief PS Sreedharan Pillai and Union tourism minister KJ Alphons Kannanthanam were in the race for the Pathanamthitta ticket.  

According to sources, many fake cases are imposed on Surendran. And Surendran had been arrested and the police had allegedly violated human rights with his arrest, with sources saying justice has been denied for the BJP and the RSS. 

Surendran was first arrested by the Kerala Police at 3 AM on November 18 citing preventive measures against his entry into the Sabarimala temple. The protesters said that he was carrying irumudikettu (an offering to Lord Ayyappa) and was all set to get inside the temple as a devotee, but the police intentionally blocked him. 

The BJP on March 21 had finalised its seat-sharing deal with the Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS)and Kerala Congress (PC Thomas) for the Lok Sabha polls.

The BJP will field candidates in 14 constituencies in Kerala, while the BDJS will contest in five seats, PC Thomas-led Kerala Congress will contest one seat - Kottayam.
