Every year on October 9, we observe IFS Day to honour and celebrate the Indian Foreign Service, which plays a crucial role in representing India's interests abroad and shaping its foreign policy. Established in 1946, the IFS remains one of the most elite branches of the Indian Civil Services, charged with maintaining diplomatic relations, protecting Indian citizens overseas, and promoting India's economic, political, and cultural interests globally. On this day, the country recognizes the contributions of its foreign service officers, who serve as India's diplomats, ambassadors, and representatives in international organizations.
