Raipur: Four Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were killed and two others were injured in an encounter with naxals in insurgency-hit Kanker district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday.

The encounter took place in the area that falls under the Partapur police station. According to the police, the encounter between the security forces and the naxals broke out when the personnel were out on anti-naxal exercise.

The injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The personnel were belonging to 114th battalion of BSF. Moreover, reinforcement was sent to the encounter site and the operation was intensified.

The BSF in an official statement said, “Today at about 1145 hrs, the domination patrol of 114 Battalion BSF deployed in Pakhanjur, Kanker Chhattisgarh has been targeted by the Naxals with IEDs and Fire. Four BSF troopers have attained martyrdom retaliating this attack. Two others are injured. They are being evacuated. Reinforcement has reached.”

The BSF also said that the naxals suffered casualties, but details are yet to be ascertained.

The area has now been cordoned off

Last month, an elite force of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) gunned down four naxals, including two women, in insurgency-hit Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. The troop also recovered one INSAS and two 303 rifles during the search operation. 

Deputy inspector general (anti-naxal operations) Sundarraj P said that the gun battle took place at Karkanguda forest of Chintalnar-Jagargunda area close to the border of Sukma and Bijapur.
