Poonch: A six-year-old child, along with a border security force (BSF) inspector, was killed and three other security personnel were injured in an incident of cease fire violation by the Pakistan Army on Wednesday

"Inspector T Alex Lalminlun and 4 other troops of BSF, deployed on forward defended locality in Poonch area, have sustained injuries while retaliating the cease fire violation by Pakistani forces. All injured personnel were airlifted to medical facilities. Inspector Alex has succumbed to his injuries while the condition of three others is stable and they are out of danger,” one official from the BSF said.

Poonch deputy commissioner Rahul Yadav told media that educational institutions in Shahpur area along the LoC have been ordered to remain closed due to precautionary measures.

Schools have been shut down due to shelling in four areas, which included Shahpur, Mendhar, Kerni and Qasba. There have been shelling in other areas, like Manjakot.

This current incident came just two days after a civilian was seriously injured in another ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Mendhar area.

“At about 7.45 am, the Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by shelling with mortars and firing of small arms along the LoC in Shahpur and Kerni areas of Poonch district,” the Indian Army said.

Cease fire violation incidents have increased ahead of BJP president Amit Shah rallies scheduled this week where he will address the public in Udhampur and Sunderbani.
