Bengaluru: Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday reportedly said that only six families out of the list of 10 lakh farmers' families had reaped the benefits of the PM-KISAN scheme. He began to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech.

"Modi, who came to power five years ago with a lot of promises, is a big liar. One instance is enough to prove this. We decided to waive loans worth Rs 45,000 crore. But Modi said this was a lollipop and had not benefited anybody. But I want to tell you that 44 lakh people are benefiting," Kumaraswamy reportedly said in a joint rally along with the Congress.

"We have brought schemes for the welfare of the farmers in the budget. We sent details of 10 lakh farmer families, but only six families have been provided the benefit under the PM KISAN Yojana," he said.

Under PM-KISAN scheme, an amount of Rs 2,000 each in three instalments will be transferred directly to the bank account of beneficiaries through the Direct Benefits Transfer scheme. More than 12 crore farmers are expected to reap the benefits of this scheme.

Speaking to MyNation, BJP MLA CN Ashwath Narayan said, “Kumaraswamy is known for lying. He always gives false statements. There is no space for discrimination here. Whoever has sent their forms before the code of conduct, will receive the benefits of the scheme. Basically, we have to reach out across the country. The intention of this program is to reach out to the farmers. While Karnataka is a stronghold o the BJP, Kumaraswamy is trying to create a divide among the people. His statements are nothing, but a lie.”
