New Delhi: The skeletons of six cows were found in Aligarh's Bhogpur village on Wednesday.

"The carcass was found in Chandaus (Aligarh) and bullets were found in Arniya (Bulandshahr). This is a two-three day old incident. We are investigating the matter," Khurja's Circle Officer Gopal Singh told news agency ANI.

This incident comes just a month after clashes over the presence of illegal animal slaughterhouses in Bulandshahr triggered violence in the district and resulted in the death of two individuals.

The violence took place in Mahao village in Syana area of Bulandshahr, some 100 km from Delhi when a cow carcass was allegedly found in a thicket. The news travelled fast in the area and the situation worsened. A large crowd staged a blockade of the Bulandshahr-Dhar highway, carrying the cow carcass. The police tried to intervene, which led to hostilities.

The number of accused held in connection with the violence has gone up to 31, including Bajrang Dal leader Yogesh Raj and a Delhi taxi driver.
