New Delhi: Asansol in Bengal is touted to be the clash between Babul Supriyo, a man with a macho charisma and yesteryear actress Moon Moon Sen. Supriyo was one among the only two seats won by the BJP in Bengal in 2014. This time he is the repeat candidate from Asansol. The clash was between a well-known playback singer and a former actress.

Supriyo who won by 70,480 votes in 2014, started refuge in singing for his campaigning. He has sung a song whose lyrics irked the TMC, and a police complaint was also filed against him.

Meanwhile, Moon Moon Sen, on the other hand, has credits in Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi and Kannada films. She is the daughter of legendary Bengali actress Suchitra Sen.

It was not only a star-studded contest between singer Babul Supriyo and yesteryear actress Moon Moon Sen but also a prestige battle between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who have taken this battle to their ego and are looking for a win.

The constituency also saw a fair share of violence, even on election day. Union Minister Babul Supriyo who is also the BJP candidate from the area was attacked. The paramilitary forces deployed for personal security had to rescue him. BJP alleged it was the handiwork of TMC cadre who not only used filthy language against Supriyo but managed to smash his car in spite of heavy deployment of security.
